Love Dishonor: A Clothing Line On The Rise!

              If you’re a “tee” fan like me and loves checking out those clothing lines and tee shops, here’s one clothing line you really should take a look. Love Dishonor Clothing Line, it was founded by a teenage guy named Olav last December 2010. Love Dishonor already had produced 6 tees since it was started and is currently based in Manila. The thing here is that more than the unique design it has, the story behind it is worth listening to.

                The founder of Love Dishonor was inspired to make the clothing line possible because of his gambling experiences. Yes, he’s one of those people who loves to gamble and after loosing a big amount of money, screwing up his allowance and compromising every other expenses, he soon realized he’s doing things the wrong way. Since this guy is also a Chicosci fan (a vampire), things become more interesting for me. He made up his mind about gambling his money into business during the Chicosci Christmas party gig, when he saw almost everybody wearing Nick Automatic tees and he was wearing his “personalized CHICOSCI tee” he thought to himself, “why not make a clothing line of my own?” and there you have it, Love Dishonor was born and will make it big in the industry soon.

                If you’re curious with what’s behind the name, “Love Dishonor”, then basically it’s more personal than just joining nouns or adjectives. “Love” was derived from the name of the founder, Olav. And “Dishonor” came up because of his bitter experiences with courting girls. (He hasn’t found the right girl for him, maybe you’re the one! Well if you’re a girl for that matter. ☺) And one more thing, this guy is super friendly. If you want to be-friend him just follow him on twitter or like the Love Dishonor fan page. I assure you that he’s super approachable.

                You might be wondering what makes this clothing line different from all the others. Well one basic and important thing is the price. Love Dishonor tees are affordable and also of great quality. Price for Manila buyers is consistent while there is shipping variations for buyers outside Manila. The price of the shirts is 350php each. The reason for this is because primarily, the founder understands and knows how it feels to be a fan and student at the same time since he’s also a student. Basically, the main target markets are students and teenagers. But if you’re Mommy and Lola and Lolo wants a Love Dishonor tee well they’re welcome with wide open arms. Alongside the affordable price are freebies, like stickers of different designs.

                If you want to ask me why I’m doing this, well because I am a tee fan and I admire the attitude of the founder of Love Dishonor. Primarily because of the choices he makes, though he learned things the hard way, still he got up and rebuilt himself. It’s never easy building business, especially when you have a lot of competitors, you really need to prove your worth. Well for me this clothing line basically achieved that already. Not just because of the affordable and high quality shirts they make but also of the varying designs which make you watch out for the next one. Another factor is also music. Since the influences of the founder and myself coincides in some ways. Like Chicosci, (Shout out to the VAMPIRES out there!) Tanya Markova, Typecast and Silent Sanctuary. He’s also a fan of bands like, A Skylit Drive, Alesana, Bring Me The Horizon, A Vain Attempt, Hopes Die Last. The founder is also influenced by other clothing lines like Drop Dead from London, Nick Automatic (shout out to CEBUANOS!) and Mermollie Ink.

                All I’m saying is that he has an inspiring story of overcoming some sort of vice for him, which is gambling. And as a consumer I really think he deserves the support and time for us to check what he’s been doing. Not all of us could dare to put ourselves in a situation where there are a lot of risks involved. Business is one of the hardest fields someone has to venture into since alongside the expenses, there are haters, rivalry and screwed up time management (which is very important to him since he still is a student). And after a while it will be so damn hard to keep your feet on the ground. I’m just glad he was able to maintain his humility, which I think is a weapon for him and a reason for his success.

The influence of SLAPSHOCK.

So SLAPSHOCK was in Cebu last Friday and I got the chance to watch them because I'm a production volunteer.
           So I’ve been to a number of concerts and shows here, but this one, I’ve got to say is the WILDEST but still nothing beats my Chicosci experience. All I’m saying is that this was memorable because of the wild things that happened. Let me start off by explaining why I became a volunteer. I was never a super fan of Slapshock. I admire them though since I was also influenced by them in some ways through my brother since he’s a diehard Slipknot and Slapshock and Disturbed and other scream-o bands. So a few of they’re songs were not new to me. Also that they weren’t the sole reason why I went there, also because of “The Ambassadors” and “Pandora”. 

So upon reaching the venue, I was assigned backstage at the Sponsor’s table. Syempre I was so frickin’ happy because I was super close to the stage. An hour before everything started, the overall organizer called me and said I’ll be moved to the Entrance to help out with the tickets since they need ladies. So I died in the Visayan dialect. NAMATAY ko! I was so sad talaga, the people at the backstage(I meant most of the co-volunteers who are there) don’t even know Slapshock! WTF?! And I was stuck in the entrance with the hope of hugging Jamir and Chi dying! They don’t even know Bai Nuñez of the Ambassadors. So I was really super sad.

Ambassadors get to play 3^rd and GOD-I-MISS-LISTENING-TO-THEM!  They were really good though I don’t know what happened something technical was making them sound lousy but I still love them. Though I didn’t get to watch them since I was busy punching the tickets and screwing people because they didn’t stamp their arm. And I gotta say that the whole experience of being in the entrance was scary! The people were with are SECURITY people. Anything wild that happens starts at the Entrance, beginning at inspection.

                There was this one issue with the people coming in and handing their stamped tickets to others to let them in. The guys who refuse to leave their belts. But the scariest was when SLAPSHOCK was already playing. So they played like 11:30pm already so lesser people are coming in and we got the chance to watch them a bit from afar. It was raining so few people ran to the tents. But a few minutes later, people from one corner started running in different directions. So I was shocked, we’re all shocked and the security people are starting to move and get ready. Then Jamir was saying, “Shit! Shit!” and that was it, RIOT! When people started to race towards the exit and to us, we froze, I mean the three ladies I’m with also.  And our supervisor grabbed my hand and said, “Stay there.” I didn’t know what to do so I stayed behind the security people. Technically somebody punched somebody and their allies punched others also. After that Jamir was saying, “Bro, minsan lang kami sa Cebu so Peace out!”

                 It was my first time to actually experience something of that extent. Which clearly shows the influence of Slapshock. From the moment Jerry strummed the first string everybody from the security stood up and watched. While they're playing people around me, I meant the other prod and security people were banging their heads and singing along. When Jamir says "JUMP!" everybody JUMPS! Not kidding here. Everybody inside the field jumps. While they play everybody raised their hands and screamed along with Jamir. That's how intense the show was. 

                      Though I wasn't really satisfied with my personal experience as a fan of Slapshock since I was not assigned backstage but still it was fun and I wanna do it again. Only this time I'd have to be backstage. That's a mission.

What's wrong with "MOVES LIKE JAGGER"?

I actually didn't think this song exists until I found it trending on twitter and when one celebrity I was following started to rant about it trending. I didn't have the time to actually listen and I didn't really mind the rants and comments made by the celebrity since I'm both a fan of him and of Maroon 5. Until recently when my friend made me listen to the song and while listening, I was like, "Whutt is this?!!"

First reaction was disappointment with shock. It doesn't even sound like Maroon 5, doesn't seem to be like Adam Levine also. No wonder that celebrity hated the song, indeed it sounded "crappy" so to speak. At least that's my opinion and I do respect everyone else's also. But this is my blog and I just wanna say this. I have been a Maroon 5 fan for as long as I can remember. Their first album, "Songs About Jane" struck me with almost every song in it. Specially, "She will be loved", "Harder to Breathe" and "Sweetest Goodbye". They always had this very sweet but yet exceptional lyrics to some of their songs. I love how they are so "pop rock"-ish in some way.

So what happened to them? Why did they collaborate with Christina Aguillera? Because she's an irreplaceable part of mainstream pop? They shouldn't have done that, CA is more like techno in genre to me and Maroon 5 was remarkable enough to have pop rock. They are part of mainstream in some ways and don't need a song like "Moves Like Jagger"! It made Adam sound gay, no offense.

Nevertheless I still love Maroon 5 and I hope there won't be another song like, "Moves Like Jagger". They are remarkable and exceptional no need to have moves like jagger.

Tanduay First Five 2011-CEBU (finally!)

This was day Jeny and I has been waiting for since December 4, 2010. We prepared for this financially and physically(?). I prayed a lot for this jud and I imagined myself a lot in this situation.
Let me start by the preparations, first I bought tickets and the "Miggy ♥ Cebu"Shirt that I promised Miggy on twitter.

After that we went to the venue already, just me and JENY. Luckily we got the perfect spot in front and we felt secured cause we're surrounded by girls and not boys. I was supposed to throw it, but I was thinking that if I'd do that I might hit one of them and be in trouble so I decided to hand it over to the bouncer (his name was Erwin Nudalo) and begged him to give it to Miggy. After a while he finally had a chance to hand it over and Miggy wore the shirt while Mong read the letter attached to it (though i didn't think Miggy listened to it), i was kinda positive that he knew it's from me.

So seeing him wear it and I shouted, "Miggy, read my shirt!" and then he said,"Mia love Chicosci, thanks!" I don't know what happened, I just cried. I'm not kidding i did and Jeny kept saying, "Hoy! Basin makuyapan ka dira ha!" she meant that I might faint daw or breakdown. I know it's crazy but it really made me happy, cause I worked hard for it. After the performance, Miggy went close to us and I got the chance to hold his hand, I DIED, well almost.

After them was Parokya ni Edgar, who had an amazing performance also. After PNE we left our place and went backstage cause we know that Chicosci has a gig at Mango so we wouldn't want to miss them. So we're at the parking lot and looked for their van and waited close enough to it. And we also saw the shirt  I gave him inside the van.

First to go out was Calde, I said, "Calde, can we have a picture?" and he said,"Sure, I saw you kanina." and I said "You guys are amazing." Calde even wrote in my doodle book that he saw me.

[And after that was their guitarist, I think he was a sub for Ariel and he was handsome. Jeny even had a crush on him and when she told her it's his birthday, he kissed her and she FROZE, like literally. We don't know the guy's name.]

We waited long for Miggy and Mong so we had a chitchat with their driver. We had a really funny and "pa-ulit2x" conversation.
Then finally, MIGGY came, when he was approaching the van I was yelling,"Miggy!" And when his bouncer or something went near me and he tried to like block our way and then Miggy said something like, "No, wait," and something else, basta it sounded like he meant that it's okay coz I deserve the picture or something, whatever. And then we're like saying thank you to each other, he thanked me for the shirt and I thanked him for liking it, coming to Cebu and noticing me. I almost died like seriously.

Jeny and I had what we wanted since high school and it felt good achieving it. Our motto for the night was like, "Kung ayaw may dahilan, kung gusto palaging meron paraan." I will love these guys forever!

A Rant to Political Orgs

    So I just found out something today and It shocked me to death. I am an iskolar ng bayan and so to speak a non partisan in terms of political orgs. You could say that I still don't have that activist in me working, but you're wrong. I am an activist, deep inside I know I am. It's just that I cannot consider being part of a political org as an outlet. 

    As far as I am concerned there are two political orgs that strikes me the most. Let's just sort of call 'em the "elitists" and the "extremists". On first thought I completely understood how different they were and that none of them is better than the other, both have extreme ups and downs. But recently I got a news from a friend. Let's just say he belongs to a "tribunal" who leads the school. A particular event was threatened to be a no go for this year because of money issues and all. So here comes a sponsor, the sponsor ready with the money received a no go signal from the ones leading the "tribunal" who are mostly partisans of the "extremists". And here is where my rant starts.

   I thought the school needed that money to have a wonderful event and THEY rejected a sponsorship just because that certain sponsor was involved in some humanitarian or so to speak an activist-provoking issue. I don't know with the others but I feel really dismayed. I know we're from an activist school but shouldn't we consider those who are not here to STRIKE? Isn't that event more like a generalized event rather than personal? Isn't it enough for us to have a hot theme and issues to be tackled? Do we really need to reject help from sponsors who need nothing but a thank you? 

I just can't seem to understand it the way THEY do.
